I did a one-on-one workshop with the amazing Rocco Ancora earlier this year. He was named one of the Top Ten Photographers in the world by the iconic photography magazine American Photo. I am so lucky that he lives in Melbourne and that I could learn from him in person.
During our workshop, Rocco mentioned that I should enter the Cosmos Awards. He said that the judging panel is made up of some of the most prestigious and greatest photographers from all over the world and that I could learn a lot from their critiques.
With a comment like that, entering this award was very daunting.
Imagine my surprise when I received three Silver Awards!
The judges' critiques on my work (especially the un-awarded entries) were all very helpful.
Rocco was right. Entering competitions is not just about the thrill of winning or losing. It's about learning and growth, and striving to refine my art.
