I can’t believe this is our first time at Fairy Park. I’ve known of its existence forever, but Anakie just always seemed so far to get to.
Then there’s a question of whether the kids would enjoy it after all this effort. Anyways, my sister made a last minute decision to visit this morning, and we spontaneously decided to join her. Harry Potter audiobook in the car made the 1.5 hour drive with Mr 7 year old tolerable.
Fairy Park has a reputation of being dated and tacky, so I didn’t have high hopes. I was pleasantly surprised at how wrong I was. The castle-on-a-hill view that greeted us was magical! We started at the bottom of the hill and visited each little structure/display. The path is clean and well marked, the strictures and sculptures are bright and freshly painted. Mr 7 & Miss just-turned-3, as well as their cousin little Miss 2, were mesmerised by each and every story. They squished their little face against each window display and watched the animated-puppet story sequence repeat several rounds before moving on.
Photo opportunities were plentiful, but with them so occupied, all I got were back of their heads!
That is, until we got to the magical stable at the top of the hill where they got to ride a unicorn and a griffin!
The View from the top is pretty spectacular too!
It was a marvellous day out. We wrapped up with a treat for the grownups on our way back: late lunch at the Little Creatures Brewery. Mmm mmm.
Tips:
- Remember your hats and go on a not-too-hot day. There isn’t a lot of shade.
- Bring snacks and water for the kids. (Or buy them from the kiosk at the bottom of the hill).
- The top of the hill is pretty much the last stop, so take your time and don’t rush up there.
p.s. I don't bring my 'real' camera along when I'm on mum-duty. Most of the photos here are taken with my little Fujifilm X-T1 or my iphone.
