Ever feel like you're failing at documenting your family’s life because you don’t have time for scrapbooking?
Same.
Between school drop-offs, snack requests, and just trying to drink your coffee while it’s still warm, who has time to cut paper and glue things into a book? Not you, mama.
But here’s the good news—you don’t need a scrapbook (or even a fancy memory book) to preserve your family’s best moments.
With a few simple, stress-free methods, you can capture your family’s story in just minutes a day!
The 5-Minute Rule
Saving your family's best moments doesn’t have to take hours!
The 5-Minute Rule is all about using tiny pockets of time to record memories without overthinking it. If it takes more than 5 minutes per day, you're more likely to stop doing it when you get busy. So keep it simple!
At the end of the day, set a time for 5 minutes and jot down one thing that made you smile.
Maybe it’s the way your toddler said pasketti instead of spaghetti.
Or how your pre-teen gave you an unexpected hug.
You can type it in your phone’s notes app, write it in your notebook by your bedside table, or even use your phone's voice-to-speech.
The key? Keep it quick, easy, and stress-free!
Over time, these tiny entries become a beautiful collection of real, everyday moments, no scrapbooking skills required.
💡 Bonus tip: Set a daily reminder on your phone or do it at the same time each day to make it a habit.
5 minutes a day adds up to a lifetime of memories!
Memory Apps That Do the Work for You
Do you love snapping photos on your phone and recording videos… but hate organizing them?
There’s an app for that 😉
These apps save your photos and memories with no extra work from you.
Qeepsake: This app texts you questions about your child. You text back, and it saves the answers in a digital journal!
Chatbooks: This app turns your favorite photos into books without you doing anything.
1 Second Everyday: Record one-second video clips, and the app makes them into a short movie.
Google Photos & Tinybeans: These apps store and organize your pictures for you.
Once you set them up, these apps work on their own!
The Monthly Photo Dump Method
Raise your hand if your camera roll is a disaster! 🙋♀️
Instead of letting thousands of random photos pile up, try the Monthly Photo Dump Method.
At the end of each month, set aside 10 minutes to create a digital album labeled something like:
📁 January 2025
Scroll through your phone and add your favorite snapshots and just add them to your album.
No need for fancy editing or captions, just save the highlights!
You can share this album with grandparents so that they can see the best moments each month.
This system keeps your memories neat, accessible, and ready to relive anytime!
Bonus Tip: Buy grandparents a Skyframe and upload your monthly favourites to their skyframe remotely. They would love the monthly updates!
The Monthly Pop-in Method
If you live in Melbourne, you're in luck!
I personally LOVE collecting 'sets' of things. Monthyly Pop-in is exactly that!
Every month, you can pop in to my studio and grab a photo of your baby on my 'Pop-in chair' for $25. Then watch your collection grow month after month!
Warning: Pop-in collecting can become addictive! Some of my little Pop-in clients are turning 7 this year!
How do I get on the Pop-in wagon? Here's how:
Step 1: Visit popinphotos.com to make a booking.
Step 2: Turn up to my Melbourne photography studio with your baby on the day for one quick photo. (My studio is located in Forest Hill, near Burwood/Blackburn/Nunawading.)
Step 3: Check your email/Pop-in account. Your photo will be there within 48hrs.
Step 4: Repeat Steps 1-3 every month, or every two months, or 6. How often you Pop-in is entirely up to you!
As your baby grows, you'll have a collection of gorgeous (and matching) professional photos that capture every month/year of your baby's growth journey... for less than a week's worth of coffees!
The Annual Album Method
You know that saying: The days are long, but the years are short.
If you have kids, you’ve probably felt just how true that is.
In the early years, you take a million photos: newborn cuddles, first steps, birthday milestones, etc.
But from age 5 onwards, life gets busier, and there are less and less photos of your kids, even less of your family together. Before you know it, the next “good” photo of everyone together is at their wedding!
That’s why so many Melbourne families come back to me each year for their annual photoshoots. It’s a way to capture the little (and big) changes: from gummy baby smiles, chubby toddler hands, and gap-toothed grins, right up to the awkward pre-teen phase, then the growing confidence of young adulthood. One printed album a year becomes a treasure trove of memories, telling the beautiful, ever-changing story of your family in our beautiful city of Melbourne.
