Welcome to the enchanting world of newborn photography! As a Melbourne Newborn Photographer, I've had the pleasure of capturing countless precious moments for families, and one thing is for sure – each family has its unique style. In this blog post, let's dive into the four main newborn photography styles that my clients often choose, giving you a glimpse into the trends that are stealing hearts in Melbourne.
Boho Style: Embracing Warmth and Texture
Boho Style has been making waves in fashion and interior design for the last few years.
This style embraces softness, warmth, and hand-woven textures that create a cozy, dreamy atmosphere and a vibe that's as relaxed as a lazy Sunday afternoon.
I have everything in my studio to create this chill vibe for your newborn photo shoot. Hand-woven cushions, blankets and wraps in earthy tones & dreamy textures, complete with shabby-chic timber flooring and macrame wall hangings.
To enhance the Boho vibe, here's some tips on what to wear.
Baby: You don't need to prepare anything for your baby to wear. I have so many cute knitted outfits and wraps in my studio to choose from.
Mums: Choose fabrics like cotton, linen, or crochet for that effortlessly chic, down-to-earth feel. Consider dressing in flowy dresses or skirts in earth tones or muted florals – the kind that dance with the wind. Throw on some lightweight, layered pieces like a crochet scarf. It adds that touch of whimsy without stealing the spotlight from your little one.
Dads: Keep it relaxed with a casual shirt or a comfy henley. Opt for neutral tones or muted plaids to complement the Boho palette. Pair your top with some well-fitted denim or earth-toned trousers. Comfort meets style – it's the Boho way!
If you love the easygoing, free-spirited vibe of the Boho Style but don't have anything in your wardrobe to wear, Let me know ahead of time and you are welcome to my studio wardrobe. I have some flowy dresses for mums and a soft cream linen shirt for dads to wear.
White Studio Style: The Art of Minimalism
In the ever-evolving world of newborn photography trends, the White Studio style, also known as the Minimalist or Nordic style, is gaining rapid popularity.
In this crisp and fresh style, everything is awash in white – from the backdrop to the props and, of course, those tiny outfits. The result? Purity, simplicity, and a touch of enchantment in every frame. Your baby is the star of the show, with no other distractions.
Let's talk about what to wear to complement the 'All-White' Nordic style.
Baby: You don't need to prepare anything for your baby to wear. I have so many cute little white outfits and wraps in my studio to choose from. If you prefer to bring something from home, I highly recommend a simple white short-sleeve onesie that is well-fitted and not too big.
Mums: flowy white dress or gown. Think about soft fabrics that gracefully sway, adding a touch of elegance to the quiet ambience. A stylish shawl or a light cardigan can also provide a cozy touch without deviating from the all-white theme.
Dads: a soft cotton white shirt or henley or even a simple well-fitted white t-shirt. Light coloured jeans or cream/khaki pants for a polished yet relaxed look.
If you are struggling to find soft white clothing in your wardrobe, let me know ahead of time and you are welcome to my studio wardrobe. I have some flowy white dresses for mums and a soft cream linen shirt for dads to wear.
Colour Pop Style: A Pop Of Colour On White
It's like having the best of both worlds. If you find yourself drawn to the simplicity of the minimalist style but yearn for a touch of liveliness, Colour Pop is tailored just for you.
Picture a simple white background complemented by your favourite colour theme. It's a perfect way to add a pop of vibrancy while keeping the focus on your adorable newborn.
What to wear?
Baby: You don't need to prepare anything for your baby to wear. I have outfits, bonnets, flower crowns, and wraps in every colour. All you have to do is let me know what colour is your favourite and I'll have them ready for you!
Mums: Choose an outfit in your favourite colour – the one that makes you radiate happiness! Alternatively, you can go for a clean and crisp white ensemble, allowing you to be the neutral canvas for your baby wrapped in your favourite colour to pop. Make sure to choose soft textured fabric over stiff tailored clothing though.
Dad: If mum chooses a colourful outfit, consider wearing something in a similar color tone to create a cohesive family look. This adds a subtle touch of coordination without being too matchy-matchy. If mum chooses white, then wear white/cream/very light grey to compliment mum. Wear a soft shirt or a comfortable t-shirt, don't choose clothing with stiff fabrics. Well-fitted clothing look better on photos than clothing that is too large/loose. Avoid tucking the ends of your shirt into your belt, as it can lead to an unsightly bulge. Instead, opt for a more relaxed look by leaving your shirt untucked.
Colour Theme Style: For Colour Lovers
For those who revel in the joy of colours, the Colour Theme style is for you!
Step 1. Choose a theme colour that resonates with your family's personality. Whether it's a rich blue, a sunny yellow, a woody green, or a passionate red – let this colour set the tone for your dazzling photoshoot.
Step 2: Let me know what your theme colour is, and I will curate an array of backdrops, blankets, wraps, baby outfits and props that harmonize seamlessly.
Step 3: Mums & dads, build your own clothing ensemble around the theme colour by opting for dresses or tops in complementary shades. Think about lighter or darker tones that beautifully accentuate the chosen colour. Keep in mind that soft textured fabrics photograph better than stiff fabrics, and well-fitting clothing photograph better than clothing that is too large.
Step 4: Finishing touches - Use accessories like scarves, vibrant earrings, or a statement necklace, to repeat the theme colour and create a cohesive look.
